LOCK PICKS- ALBERTON

HOW TO STAY AHEAD OF LOCK PICKS

The best way to stay ahead of lock picks is to install counter-measures on your locks and security systems. These countermeasures can take on various forms, depending on the nature of your lock and how much you’re willing to spend for them.

The purpose of these countermeasures, however, is not to make your locks impossible to pick, but to make them so difficult that most of those who want to do so will just give up in their attempt. In short, lock pick countermeasures are meant to deter potential burglars and make their plans to rob you more difficult.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MAKE YOUR LOCKS HARDER TO PICK?

In order to stay ahead of lock picks, here’s some suggestions on what you need to do:

• Contact a locksmith and have them and have them customize your lock’s internal mechanism. A customized lock usually has extra features to make them more secure against lock picks

• Install security pins in your locks. Security pins make lock picking more difficult, and are good countermeasures against conventional lock pick tools.

• Re-key your locks whenever you suspect that someone has made a copy of your key. Re-keying may not always make your locks more difficult to pick, but they are a useful countermeasure against security risks.

• Protect your locks from bump keys. Bump keys are not the same as lock picks, but they are both based on the same principle, and that is to manipulate the tumbler pins in your lock in order to open them. Therefore, by making your lock bump key-proof, you are also making them more secure against lock picks.

• Make sure that your locks’ internal mechanisms are working properly. A malfunctioning or damaged lock is generally easier to pick than one that still works properly.

CHOOSE A GOOD BRAND

Although it’s true that all traditional locks can be picked, what’s also true is that some locks are harder to pick than others. Certain lock brands, such as Best, Medco, Scorpion and Schlage for example, are difficult to pick, as they feature two sets of seven to eight pins.

The keys for such locks also usually have groves cut down their sides for the second set of pins. Therefore, not only are these locks more secure than most other brands in the market, they also have extra features to set them apart from less secure locks. So if you’re looking for a good lock, you should buy these. Contact Saver Locksmiths for installation.
